What to Do If You’re Involved in an Accident

Take Pictures: Document the scene and any damages.
Gather Information: Obtain the following from all parties involved:
- Names and addresses
- Insurance company names and policy numbers
- Contact information for any witnesses
Police Involvement: If the police are on the scene, record the officer’s name and the report number.

Property Claims

To provide coverage, your insurance company may require the following:

A written statement detailing your loss
A police or fire department report
An inventory list of damaged property, including quantities and values
Evidence such as receipts, invoices, photos, or other documentation
Proof of mitigation efforts to prevent further damage
Cooperation with reasonable requests from the insurance company

Wood stove installations can pose fire risks, we have two WETT certified experts on staff at our head office in Watford to assist you. We offer ABC Fire Extinguishers to our policyholders at below-cost prices:

2 1/2 lb: $20
5 lb: $25
10 lb: $35

Water Damage Prevention

With severe weather events, aging infrastructure, and increased use of water-using appliances, water damage claims are rising. Here’s how you can protect your property:

Basement:

Professionally install a backwater valve
Extend downspouts 6 feet from the foundation and away from your home
Install a battery backup for your sump pump
Store valuable items in plastic bins or off the floor

Pipes:

Replace aging and corroded pipes
Install a water alarm/shutoff system
Avoid pouring fats and grease down the drain

Domestic Water Containers and Appliances:

Never leave the house with taps or appliances running
Replace plastic connection lines with steel braided hoses
Regularly service your hot water tank, softener, etc.

Roof:

Replace worn and aging shingles
Use a water barrier under shingles
Clean eavestroughs twice yearly, in spring and fall
